Correspondence from the North East RegionIn a bold move, the Nayiri, traditional ruler of Mamprugu, has publicly denounced the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and the surrounding communities.The overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom is urging the government to reconsider its stance and engage in constructive dialogue to find alternative solutions.A statement released by the Mamprugu Traditional Council on Monday, July 28, 2025, categorically condemned the murder of two male students at Nalerigu Senior High School, which occurred on Saturday evening.This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for urgent action.Rather than enforcing a curfew that may fuel further tensions, the Nayiri is advocating for sustainable solutions to address the longstanding conflict in Bawku.He warns that politicians’ interference in the conflict has compromised his traditional authority and hindered efforts to achieve peace.As the enskinning authority of Bawku Naaba, including the current 15th Bawku Naaba, Alhaji Seidu Abagre (Naa Sherigah), who was enskinned on February 15, 2023, the Nayiri urged the state to remain impartial and ensure a fair resolution to the conflict.He appealed for peace to prevail, allowing Bawku to regain its former glory and prosperity.Below is the full statement from the Mamprugu Traditional Council.
